The Importance of the Patient Experience

Hospitals and other health related businesses are realizing the importance of the patient experience. More and more patients are demanding higher quality in the health services that are provided to them. One major reason is money. Health bills are rarely inexpensive and what runs across most people’s minds when the service is poor? It’s a phrase that everyone has said under their breath at least once in their lives. “Why am I paying for this?” Which is why some people today expect a more costumer-friendly service and environment in hospitals and other health services buildings.

Some hospitals are now making it a crucial requirement to give more personal care with compassion and understanding so that the patient is comfortable with their stay. A hospital visit is not always easy for some people. Toni Ardabell, CEO of Bon Secours Richmond Health System, describes the methodology that doctors, nurses, clinicians etc. should be taking. She says that we should treat the patients as if we are walking into their house and that medical professionals should make their stay at the hospitals into “their own home while they are here.” As a result this would then increase business and it ensures a positive reputation to health facilities, but above all the patient is pleased for what they paid for.

A Heckman Thought

"Mental health is just as important  as physical health. If you're distressed, try reading a book or getting some additional sleep. I find acupuncture, swimming, and eating dark chocolate with a glass of Cab Sav to be the best way to wind down."
