The Color and Size of You Gums Have A Lot to Say About Your Health

Your gums are an important part of your mouth and body. Just think about how many times you use your mouth a day. Now think, are your gums healthy? A few good signs of healthy gums are light to medium pink color, a firm feel, low sensitivity and little to no bleeding while brushing. According to data from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention "nearly half of adults 30 and over have some form of gum disease (Barnes)." This happens when bacteria infects the bones and tissues that support the teeth.

Gum disease is a serious ailment, but can be prevented with daily brushing, using a mouth wash, in addition to flossing. You should try to make a trip to the dentist about every six months or two times a year. If you're mouth is showing signs of bleeding, inflamed reddish gums, or signs of receding gum tissue than schedule a visit with your Dentist.

Poor hygiene and abuse on your teeth can cause these negative symptoms to occur. Smoking, drinking, drugs use, and oral fixations are examples of activities they may lead to gum related issues.

Maintaining healthy gums and teeth are an important part of my life. After having braces twice, close to 10 cavities, and a root canal my teeth have been through more than just puberty. A product that I use regularly is Charcoal Powder. This powder whitens my teeth and also rids any left over bacteria that I may have missed after my initial brushing. Just remember healthy gums means a healthier you.

A Heckman Thought

"Mental health is just as important  as physical health. If you're distressed, try reading a book or getting some additional sleep. I find acupuncture, swimming, and eating dark chocolate with a glass of Cab Sav to be the best way to wind down."
